ABOUT US

Founded in 2017, Walk for Homelessness Savannah was created to raise awareness for the various types of homelessness in the city.

"Our aim has been to shed light on the varying ways that a person can become homeless, outside of the normalized and stigmatized form of it that we see on the streets around the city. We wanted to look deeper at the people who are a part of the 'working class' homeless, who are working and just are not making enough to afford housing. We also, want to work to assist community institutions that are in place to make housing more affordable for families, or individuals who can not afford a place to stay."

- Eric Bailey, Founder & Director

Walk for Homelessness Savannah's mission is to foster the connection of people in the Savannah community with the various institutions that are in place to help prevent homelessness.

Although we are not leaving any particular level of homelessness out of the conversation, our primary focus is on the people who are working, or in search for work, yet struggling to afford housing. We are aware that there are also a lot of people who are mentally ill and simply do not have the support that would be necessary for them to live functional lives in our community. Our aim is to focus on creating connections with these people to the systems and institutions that are in place to give them the assistance they need, instead of merely offering them "spare change."
